Basil Udotai is the Managing Partner of Technology Advisors (TA), a specialty law practice that focuses solely on ICT matters. As head of the firm’s technology practice, he is directly involved in TA’s advisory services to several international organizations, multinational firms, Governments and private sector clients on a wide range of issues.
Mr. Udotai was pioneer Director and Head of the Directorate for Cybersecurity (DfC),
Nigeria. He also served as Coordinator of the Nigerian Cybercrime Working Group
(NCWG), where he led Nigeria’s first ever coordinated effort in creating both legal and institutional frameworks for computer crime and critical information infrastructure protection. Prior to that, he was General Counsel & Legal Adviser of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Earlier he had served as Consulting Attorney and Lead Counsel to the Federal Government on the
Government-wide Software Licensing Agreement with Microsoft Corporation, USA.
Mr. Udotai obtained his Bachelor of laws (LL.B) and Master of laws (LL.M) degrees from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1991 and 1994, respectively. He also received
LL.M in European Union Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium as well as
LL.M in Antitrust Law from the University of Georgia, Athens, USA.
Before returning to Nigeria in 2002, Mr. Udotai consulted for a number of law firms in
Washington, DC and served for 3 years in the Government of the District of Columbia,
Washington, DC where he worked in the area of Technology Transactions, Privacy &
Security; Intellectual Property and Internet Law.
