Requests for New Courses
• FLAN 541 Practicum in World Language Instruction—Secondary
• FLAN 542 Practicum in World Language Instruction—Elementary
[Both proposals were tabled at the 2-21-13 meeting with the following comments:
The 2 FLAN new course proposals were Tabled Unanimously for inconsistencies in graduate-undergraduate participation information. Both graduate-level course
proposals are restricted to only undergraduates (Item 12c). FLAN542 is intended for both graduates and undergraduates; however, undergraduates cannot take the
prerequisite (FLAN612). Additional minor comments are that the grading scales on the syllabi include “A+” grades, which EMU does not have, and that “E”
should be changed to the new “F”.]
Having addressed these problems, the FLAN541 and FLAN542 new course proposals were Approved Unanimously as a Package

PLSC
The PLSC guests described the rationale for the changes to the Master of Public Administration and Nonprofit Administration
Minor programs and answered questions to clarify waivers and electives information. Those two program revision proposals and
the proposed new Minor in International Affairs were Approved as a Package Unanimously with two comments on the latter
proposal. First, the last sentence on page 4 should be removed (“If a foreign language is selected, students will consult with a
World Languages advisor to select an appropriate sequence of classes”). Second, as a reminder, the course title for ANTH233
needs to be corrected to “Cultures of Mesoamerica and the Caribbean”.

next meeting (September 2013) to discuss the change.
