AB Weekends Coordinator, Volunteer Position- SP/SU 2016-Winter 2017

Alternative Breaks Weekends Coordinator, Volunteer PositionExpectations/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator of the VISION Volunteer Center and the
VISION Graduate Assistant and in tandem with the representative from Campus Life the
expectations and responsibilities for the AB Weekends Coordinator, Volunteer Position include
but are not limited to:
Summer:
● Attend scheduled meetings throughout the summer of 2016 and throughout the Fall and
Winter semesters as a part of the Alternative Breaks team
● Create a timeline for the year including when AB Weekends will occur, due dates for
applications, etc. in line with the AB Program overall
● Finalize AB Weekends applications to be made available to student organizations in the
Fall
Fall Semester:
● Finalize AB Weekends applications to be made available to student organizations in the
Fall
● Hold 5 office hours per week

● Assist with viewing student organization and Site Leader applications
● Attend Site Leader retreat (give out information and facilitated conversations and
trainings as needed)
● Arrange to meet with AB Weekends Site Leaders regularly (during the semester of their
AB Weekend)
● Arrange the logistics of the AB Weekends for the semester including transportation,
housing, service (in tandem with the representative from Campus Life)
● Assist Site Leaders in locating and providing appropriate pre-trip education for their
participants
● Provide support to Site Leaders while they are on their AB Weekend if needed
● Support the development of post-break initiatives
Winter Semester:
● Hold 5 office hours per week
● Assist with viewing student organization and Site Leader applications
● Arrange to meet with AB Weekends Site Leaders regularly (during the semester of their
AB Weekend)
● Arrange the logistics of the AB Weekends for the semester including transportation,
housing, service (in tandem with the representative from Campus Life)
● Assist Site Leaders in locating and providing appropriate pre-trip education for their
participants
● Provide support to Site Leaders while they are on their AB Weekend if needed
● Support the development of post-break initiatives
● Assist with Reorientation
Overall:
● Represent VISION in various settings (Eaglepalooza, etc.)
● Attend weekly supervisory meeting with VISION coordinator and/or regular AB
meetings
● Other tasks as needed

Alternative Break Weekends Coordinator, Volunteer Position - Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Community service, community engagement, and volunteer experience (specifically AB
experience) strongly preferred
Passion for social justice
Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours each term
Cumulative EMU GPA of 2.5 or greater (must be maintained throughout the duration of
employment)
Hours and Compensation

Approximately 5 hours per week. This is a volunteer position.
