2. Red Flag Warning Verification
3. Modification of Fire Weather Zone 609
4. 2005 Chairman
Wind Station Analysis
Discussion centered on field comments concerning the draft wind
station analysis distributed May 10, 2004. Paul reviewed comments from the Pendleton NWS,
Siuslaw NF and Salem BLM, Warm Springs BIA and Colville NF. Mike Ziolko summarized
comments he had received from the Klamath Falls and ODF Northwest Oregon areas.
Pendleton NWS and Warm Springs wanted HeHe1 added.
Siuslaw NF and Salem BLM agreed with Dunes and Horse as good wind stations (per the
analysis).
Colville NF suggested we look at adding the new Iron Mtn RAWS instead of Tacoma Cr.
ODF Northwest questioned whether or not the Tillamook RAWS would be a good wind station.
Brian Goff from Klamath Falls sent us their list of “key” RAWS per their analysis which Mike
Ziolko e-mailed to the Working Team.
Paul suggested the addition of Calimus and Ft Rock in PSA C3 Stehekin in E1, HeHe1 in C2 and
Brush in W3.
Action Item: Paul will make calls to the five NWS offices, that didn’t respond, to get
their comments. He will also call Greg to see if DNR had any comments.
Red Flag Warning Verification
Discussion concerning the verification (together with the
NWS) of Red Flag Warnings within a week of the event. This would be much better than
waiting until the end of the fire season when validating the warnings would be much more
difficult.
Action Item: Paul will contact the NWS to set this up.
Modification of Fire Weather Zone 609 Mike gave an update of efforts of the Pendleton NWS
to change the boundaries of Zone 609 to include the east end of the Columbia Basin. Terry has
been working with Joe Solomon on an analysis of RAWS in the area.
2005 Chairman It is time to starting thinking of the Weather working Team’s chairman for
2005. We should make the decision at our fall meeting.
Paul Werth, Chair
