Annual Report 2010/11
Introduction from the Director: Alan Rivett
Rekindling and revitalisation of the spirit of the organisation;
reasserting our mission and raison d’etre, was perhaps the theme
running throughout the 2010/2011 year. This was nowhere more
perfectly illustrated than in May 2011 when a small dedication
ceremony took place in our now much sought after new creative
studio. The dedication of this space, built in 2009, was to the memory
of Helen Martin, a founding donor to the University, without whose
generosity Warwick Arts Centre, as we know it today, may well not
have existed. Helen Martin was a true patron of the arts, believing in
their enduring and transformative power to change lives. In this spirit,
alongside presenting one of the most notable artistic programmes in
the UK today, our staff and our principal stakeholders came together
during the year to continue the work and plan the future development
of Warwick Arts Centre.
“The Tempest was the best theatrical
performance I have ever seen! Hilarious, clever
and simply breathtaking! The cast consists of
highly prominent Russian actors as well as young
and highly talented stars! Amazing!” Margarita, Mar 11

Education at Warwick Arts Centre
In 2010/11 the Education Team once again extended its reach to work across 8 local authorities
in the West Midlands – Coventry, Warwickshire, Solihull, Worcestershire, Sandwell, Dudley,
Shropshire and Staffordshire. We were very excited to work with new schools, youth centres,
pupil referral units and even, for the first ever time, a prison. In our projects, children and young
people have created new works of art across a large range of art forms, and we continue to
ensure that we provide new opportunities for the young to work as artists with artists to stretch
their imaginations and creative skills and share their work with families and friends. Over the
year, in 812 sessions, we made almost 45,500 contacts with over 15,500 participants.

Photographer-in-Residence
In April 2011 Alan Ainsworth joined Warwick
Arts Centre as Photographer-in-Residence
in a year-long project documenting the life of
Warwick Arts Centre.
This project will form a fascinating archive of all that happens
at Warwick Arts Centre – it’s not just about the events on our
stages, but about the people who work here, artists arriving,
backstage technical preparations, student activity, workshops
Here are some photographs from the early stages of the project:
