Numbers in red correspond to the steps on the left
1) Note the Date of the notice, and the Last
Date to Appeal (must be received or
postmarked by this date).

2) The property location identifies the street
address of the parcel being appealed, while
the rest of the addressing refers to mailing
address for correspondence concerning the
appeal. If the mailing address is not correct,
line through the information and write in the
correct address.
3) If someone other than the owner will be
managing your appeal, provide the
information here. If your representative is
NOT an attorney-at-law licensed in North
Carolina, you must submit a power-of-attorney
for your representative to act in your regard.

4) Enter your own OPINION OF VALUE.
5) Describe any effort you have made to sell
the property.
6) State your reason(s) for appealing the
Assessor’s Office valuation of your property.
7) Identify any properties you feel are similar
to yours and support a different valuation.

8) If your property is used to provide income it is rented or leased to others - you must
provide your rent roll (tenants and dates of
occupancy) and operating statements (income
and expense) for the years preceding the
revaluation date of January 1, 2011.

Review/Submit Your Appeal
9) Review the criteria for appealing property
values in non-revaluation years. Confirm that
your stated basis aligns with one or more of
the criteria.
10) Follow the instructions for submitting your
appeal.
