Is CSR Resource - Driven or Stakeholder-Driven? Evidence from
an Emerging Economy
Yu-Shu Peng
Through the lenses of the resource-based view and stakeholder theory, this study
aims to answer a major question “Is CSR resource-driven or stakeholder-driven?”
by constructing an antecedent model of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Panel data for this study pertain to 103 Taiwanese electronics firms from 2001 to
2008. Evidence shows that financial liquidity, firm size, internationalization, foreign
shareholding, competitors commitment to CSR positively influence the level of
firm’s CSR, indicating both RBV and stakeholder theory can interpret CSR
engagement.
