1.
"Spatial Planning is an important tool for a small island state in promoting
sustainable development." Discuss this statement outlying the practicality of
adopting such a tool.
2. Malta has had difficulty to comply with the daily limit value for paniculate matter
(PM10) since 2004. Outline the necessary action that needs to be taken to be
compliant with the provisions of the Air Quality Framework Directive (1996/62/EC).
Suggest several measures that could be implemented on a national basis to reduce
concentrations of this pollutant to acceptable limits.

Discuss the options in the Waste Management Hierarchy with a view to their relative
degree of sustainability.
4.
Working with data necessitates dealing with models, such as the CRJSOLA model.
Discuss whether research problems can be solved when using models that engage
more than one discipline, in conjunction with the social and land use themes.
Concentrate on the issues relating to data sources, analysis, problems and solutions
that are evident in the Maltese scene.
5.
Outline the costs and benefits of EU Environmental policy for Malta.

Outline the main aspects of an Environmental Management System and the benefits
of implementing such a system for SMEs.
7.
Identify the main considerations involved in the drawing up of a. sustainable
development strategy for a small island state.
