Student Groups
Society for Peace and Conflict Resolution (SPCR) represents the interests of the
IPCR students and works to enhance your graduate experience while empowering students to become
more engaged in global conflict resolution and peace work. You can reach out to SPCR at
spcr@american.edu.
SPCR encourages all IPCR students to attend their meetings every other Friday to provide input on
their student experiences and let the group know how they can best assist the needs of the IPCR
students.

American University Negotiation Project (AUNP) organizes negotiation
simulations where participants can gain conflict resolution and mediation skills. The group also
invites speakers with expertise in negotiation for insightful talks open to the AU community. You
can reach out to AUNP at aunegotiationproject@gmail.com.
Creative Peace Initiatives (CPI) promotes creative peacebuilding locally and globally
through service programs, trainings, conferences and networking opportunities. The group is
currently inactive but students interested in reviving the group should reach out to
peace@american.edu.

Applications for Summer and Fall 2016 Practica Are Now Open
The practicum application process for Summer and Fall 2016 is now open! Applications are due at
midnight on Tuesday, March 1st. To be eligible to participate in a SIS Practicum you must have a
minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed 18 credits of graduate coursework. To learn more
about the application process and to view the exciting practica being offered, please visit the SIS
Practicum Program website.
AU-Myanmar Service-Learning Graduate Fellowship
Are you passionate about public service and interested in supporting
education in Myanmar? Apply for the AU-Myanmar Service-Learning Graduate Fellowship. As a fellow,
you'll have the opportunity to teach and develop a service-learning course with the Phaung Daw Oo
Monastic Education High School from June-August 2016. Apply through EngageNet,

Making Conflict Work App
Professor Peter T. Coleman and Dr. Robert Ferguson of Columbia University have developed a free
mobile app for solutions to interpersonal and workplace conflicts. Based on research from their book on
conflict resolution, this app applies these techniques to provide suggestions for navigating conflict in
everyday life. Click here for more information.
Civic Engagements: D.C. Community Conflict Dynamics
This project will lay the groundwork for an upcoming Conflict Resolution Apprenticeship Summer
Institute, jointly run by GWU, CIT and the IMCP, for students interested in practicing their conflict
resolution skills in live settings. Capstone student teams will complete the following activities during
Spring 2016: map Diaspora communities and crime in the DC area; assess social structures and
conflict dynamics; build community relationships and develop partnerships; and write a final report
summarizing lessons learned. This project is recruiting two teams of three to four graduate students to

iTrek Public Policy Trip to Israel
Israel & Co offers trips to motivated and organized graduate students with an interest in peacebuilding.
This is an opportunity for a fully-funded 7-10 day trip to Israel with an entire student group, which can be
organized independently or by a professor. By connecting participants with organizations in Israel that
are of interest to them, iTrek is a great experience to meet with leaders in various fields.
