Summer Programme 2005
A Photo Journey
This is a 6-week programme which includes 2 weeks of
field trips in China from 5 – 17 June 2005. 30 students
and 2 faculty members from the Department of Real
Estate participated in the programme. Some RE Year 3
students currently studying in China for their SEP/NOC
semesters also participated in some of the field trips and
lectures. The group visited real estate institutions in both
the public and private sectors, as well as development
projects in the residential, industrial and commercial
sectors of Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.

achieved all these and beyond. The programme was certainly an enriching one, with lectures by eminent
academics from Tongji, Fudan and Nanjing University as well as seminars by renowned organizations in China
such as CapitaLand and Colliers International. Through the visits to residential and commercial projects in China,
we managed to gain a quick understanding of how the real estate mechanism worked e.g. regulations, trends and
characteristics of the various sectors. Very importantly, the participants bonded closely throughout the whole trip to the point of sadness upon foreseeing the impending mornings without the sight of one another as the end of the
trip drew nearer.”

function in other places. Even the coach rides from one destination to another were an eye-opener to us. The
coach ride from Hangzhou to Nanjing left me the deepest impression, as I was able to watch buffalos working in
