C. Departmental Mission Statement
New Student Services Mission
The mission of New Student Services is to provide for continuing services and assistance that
will:



Aid new students in their transition to K-State.
Expose new students to the broad range of educational opportunities offered by K-State.
Integrate new students into the life at K-State.
D. Assessment of Student Learning Three-Year Plan
1. Student Learning Outcome(s)
a. List (or attach a list) all of the student learning outcomes for the department.
b. Identify outcomes that will be assessed in the first year of the assessment plan.
[List at least 2-5 learning outcomes that will be assessed by the unit over the next year. Each
unit will select which of its learning outcomes to assess.]
Outcome 1: Identify self as a K-State student
Outcome 2: Recognize academic support services and resources
Outcome 3: Establish a connection with a member of the K-State community
Outcome 4: Select an involvement opportunity that aligns with their personal, academic, or career
interests
Special rationale for selecting these learning outcomes (optional):
The learning outcomes stated above were all assessed on the survey provided to students who
attend June orientation and enrollment. Responses were provided to each outcome and we thought
assessing all four learning outcomes would be beneficial.

2. How will the learning outcomes be assessed? What groups will be included in the assessment?
[Briefly describe the assessment tools, measures, or forms of evidence that will be utilized to
demonstrate students’ accomplishment of the learning outcomes selected in the one-year plan.
Also indicate whether each measure is direct or indirect. If you are unsure, then write “Unsure
of measurement type”. There is an expectation that at least one of the assessment
methods/measures will be direct measures of student learning (see Measures, Rubrics, & Tools
for Assessing Student Learning Outcomes on the APR website for examples of direct and
indirect measures).]
Outcome 1: Survey conducted during June orientation and enrollment
Outcome 2: Survey conducted during June orientation and enrollment
Outcome 3: Survey conducted during June orientation and enrollment
Outcome 4: Survey conducted during June orientation and enrollment
3. When will these outcomes be assessed? When and in what format will the results of the
assessment be discussed?
[Briefly describe the timeframe over which your unit will conduct the assessment of the learning
outcomes selected for the one-year plan. For example, provide a layout of the semesters or years
on which outcomes will be assessed, and which semester/year the results will be discussed and
used to improve student learning (e.g., discussed with faculty, advisory boards, students, etc.]
Outcome 1: July, reports are provided from the survey and meetings will be held to discuss the
results
Outcome 2: July, reports are provided from the survey and meetings will be held to discuss the
results
Outcome 3: July, reports are provided from the survey and meetings will be held to discuss the
results
Outcome 4: July, reports are provided from the survey and meetings will be held to discuss the
results
4. What is the unit’s process for using assessment results to improve student learning?
The results from the Student Learning Outcomes will be used to look at the programming during
June orientation and enrollment to ensure the right messages are being communicated to students
and that students are making connections with faculty and staff while they are attending
orientation and enrollment. The data will be used to further assess the content in the TIPS
sessions, which the Orientation Leaders conduct, as well as, the K-State Show.
