Anglo-American College in Prague
This summer I had the opportunity to visit the New Anglo-American College in Prague in
the Czech Republic. Last fall they sent Gloria Garing an e-mail saying they were
interested in developing a stronger relationship with California Community Colleges.
This is what I found out:
• They are fully accredited. Bachelors degrees completed there are fully
acknowledged in the U.S. and by both the UC and CSU systems.
• They currently have 100 students enrolled: 50 American students and 50 English
speaking students from the Czech Republic or other countries.
• They admit California Community College transfer students who have a 2.5 GPA
or higher.
• All of their classes are taught in English.
• They have 3 Bachelors Programs: 1) Business Administration, 2) Humanities &
Social Sciences (which can emphasize either Politics and Society, or Humanities,
Society and Culture) and 3) Comparative Law.
• They also have 2 Masters Programs: International Relations and Diplomacy, and
Applied Sociology and Public Policy.
• Our students should transfer once they reach 45 semester units, because they will
not use more than 45 of our community college units toward their B.A. program.
After completing the 45 units at Cabrillo, students will be able to complete the
program in Prague in 2 years.
• They recommend that students complete 2 transferable English courses here prior
to transfer and one transferable math course. There are also recommended major
courses (I will be sending their catalog to the Transfer Center).
• They have a limited number of dorms available, but they assist students in finding
apartments near the college.
• Tuition is currently $2,266.89 per semester
• There is no cost for books or computers. Both are included in the cost of the
school.
Housing and food in Prague is quite inexpensive (far less than in the U.S.)
The campus is located in a beautiful old building in one of the oldest and most
beautiful areas of Prague (the Mala Strana right off the Charles Bridge).
