Limited Submissions
Limited submission programs have
sponsor restrictions on the number of
proposals that may be submitted by a
single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which
applications will be submitted. Dr. Jim
Guikema, Associate Vice President for
Research, is the internal coordinator for
limited submission programs. Please
notify him at 785-532-6195, email:
guikema@ksu.edu, by the Internal due
date listed in the Funding Bulletin or by
at least two months prior to the sponsor
deadline if you wish to submit to a limited submission program. Currently

exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research. The objective of
this program is to foster creative basic
research in science and engineering,
enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators, and
increase opportunities for the young
investigators to recognize the Air Force
mission and the related challenges in science and engineering. AFOSR is seeking

24-4 Systems-Based Strategies to
Improve the Nation’s Ability to Plan
and Respond to Water Scarcity and
Drought Due to Climate Change
(EPA)
The U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) is seeking applications
that use a systems approach to investi-
gate how drought, climate change, and
land use practices impact the quality and
availability of surface and groundwater
sources nationally. EPA is also interested
in research that will help communities
anticipate, plan and adapt to these new
climate scenarios in the future. Many factors influence water demand and availability such as population growth,
changes in land use practices, and high
water demands from different sectors.
Nationally, as weather patterns change
(drought, flash floods, wildfires, etc), climate will increasingly play a major role in
determining water quality and availability. This research will investigate the
direct impact of climate change on water
scarcity and drought, and how it affects
the quality and availability of our water
resources.

24-5 Fellowships to Assist Research
and Artistic Creation (Guggenheim)
Often characterized as midcareer awards,
Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for
men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative
ability in the arts. Fellowships are
awarded through two annual competitions: one open to citizens and permanent
residents of the United States and Canada,

24-6 Grants in Architecture and
Related Arts (Graham)
The Graham Foundation for Advanced
Studies in the Fine Arts makes projectbased grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to
foster the development and exchange of
diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and
society. In the Foundation’s words: Architecture and related spatial practices
engage a wide range of cultural, social,
political, technological, environmental,
and aesthetic issues. They are interested
in projects that investigate the contemporary condition, expand historical perspectives, or explore the future of architecture
and the designed environment. They support innovative, thought-provoking investigations in architecture; architectural
history, theory, and criticism; design;
engineering; landscape architecture;
urban planning; urban studies; visual arts;
and related fields of inquiry. Their interest

also extends to work being done in the
fine arts, humanities, and sciences that
expands the boundaries of thinking about
architecture and space. In an effort to
bridge communities and different fields of
knowledge, they support a wide range of
practitioners (such as architects, scholars,
critics, writers, artists, curators, and educators) and organizations (such as nonprofit galleries, colleges and universities,
publishers, and museums). (TGA 6/14)

24-7 Fellowships (ACLS)
The ACLS Fellowship program invites
research applicants in all disciplines of
the humanities and related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project
should be a major piece of scholarly work
by the applicant. ACLS does not fund creative work (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translation, or
pedagogical projects. The ACLS Fellowships are intended as salary replacement
to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months to full-time research and
writing. (TGA 6/14)

24-8 Partnerships for Innovation:
Accelerating Innovation ResearchTechnology Translation (PFI: AIR-TT)
(NSF)
The NSF Partnerships for Innovation
(PFI) program within the Division of
Industrial Innovation and Partnerships
(IIP) is an umbrella for two complementary subprograms, Accelerating Innovation Research (AIR) and Building
Innovation Capacity (BIC). The subject
of this solicitation is PFI: AIR-Technology Translation (PFI: AIR-TT). The PFI:
AIR-TT solicitation program serves as an
early opportunity to move previously
NSF-funded research results with promising commercial potential along the path
toward commercialization. Projects are
supported to demonstrate proof-of-concept, prototype, or scale-up while engaging faculty and students in
entrepreneurial/innovative thinking. NSF

Grants (ACVIM)
The American College of Veterinary
Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Foundation
is pleased to announce two new seed
grant calls in 2014. These grants will
focus in the areas of feline cardiac disease
and feline chronic renal disease. Each will
provide up to $10,000 to fund smaller
research projects and/or allow for the generation of preliminary data needed for
larger scale studies. These studies are to
be completed within one year of initiation. (PND 6/20/2014)

SOCIAL SCIENCES
24-10 Visiting Scholars Program (Sage)
The Russell Sage Foundation’s Visiting
Scholar Program provides a unique
opportunity for select scholars in the
social, economic and behavioral sciences
to pursue their research and writing while
in residence at the Foundation’s New
York headquarters. Research carried out
by Visiting Scholars constitutes an important part of the Foundation’s ongoing
effort to analyze and understand the complex and shifting nature of social and economic life in the United States. While
Visiting Scholars typically work on
projects related to the Foundation’s current programs, a few scholars whose
research falls outside the Foundation’s
active programs are also invited each
year. (TGA 6/14)

24-11 Economics Grant Program
(Kazanjian)
Projects supported by the Foundation
should: a) Disseminate economic thinking
and knowledge by all available means, to
the end that greater happiness and prosperity may come to all through better economic understanding; b) Produce
materials, conduct seminars and workshops that promote discussions and assist
in the development of greater economic
literacy; c) Promote the interchange of
ideas and experiences among students of
economic theory, those teaching it, and
those engaged in solving practical economic problems in business and government; d) Further these purposes through
cooperation with schools, colleges and
universities, foundations or other organizations by financial supports or other
means. (TGA 6/14)

Deadline: 9/15/2014, 2/15/2015
24-12 Law and Social Science (NSF)
The Law and Social Sciences Program
considers proposals that address social
scientific studies of law and law-like systems of rules. The program is inherently
interdisciplinary and multi-methodological. Successful proposals describe
research that advances scientific theory
and understanding of the connections
between law or legal processes and
human behavior. Social scientific studies
of law often approach law as dynamic,
made in multiple arenas, with the participation of multiple actors. Fields of study
include many disciplines, and often
24-13 Geography and Spatial Sciences
Program (GSS) (NSF)
The goals of the NSF Geography and
Spatial Sciences (GSS) Program are: To
promote scientific research in geography
and the spatial sciences that advances theory and basic understanding and that
addresses the challenges facing society; to
promote the integration of geographers
and spatial scientists in interdisciplinary
research; to promote education and training of geographers and spatial scientists
in order to enhance the capabilities of current and future generations of researchers;
and to promote the development and use
of scientific methods and tools for geographic research. The Geography and
Spatial Sciences Program sponsors
research on the geographic distributions
and interactions of human, physical, and
biotic systems on Earth. Investigators are
encouraged to propose plans for research
about the nature, causes, and consequences of human activity and natural
environmental processes across a range of
scales. Projects on a variety of topics
qualify for support if they offer promise
of contributing to scholarship by enhancing geographical knowledge, concepts,
theories, methods, and their application to
societal problems and concerns. NSF 14537
