Determined to Succeed
Enterprise in education has been at the forefront of Scottish education for the
past six years through the Determined to Succeed Strategy.
Appendix 6
Press release
Determined to Succeed has spearheaded enterprising approaches to learning
and teaching in support of Curriculum for Excellence, engaging teachers and
learners in developing an enthusiasm for and an understanding of the world of
work in partnership with employers and informing career choices which embrace
the concept of entrepreneurialism.
Determined to Succeed remains a strategy to develop the enterprise and
employability of our young people, better preparing them for work and life in a
globalised society. It does this by embedding enterprise in education across and
within the curriculum and ethos in every school in Scotland. It stresses the
importance of engaging with employers to set learning in context and give it
greater relevance to the world beyond school. Enterprising approaches to
learning and teaching are helping our young people become successful learners,
confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
A Celebration of Scotland’s Enterprising Young People
A Celebration of Scotland’s Enterprising 2009 begins on 1st November and
culminates on St. Andrews Day on 30th November. During this time the
Determined to Succeed team will be hosting national events and supporting
external events which will focus on the themes of science, technology,
communications, global entrepreneurship and Scotland’s past culture and
heritage. As this is the year of Homecoming all events will incorporate this and
schools are encouraged to host their own events to celebrate their enterprising
young people.
