SFDF’s schools programme A Future in Food is a national programme that
facilitates partnerships between schools and industry that help to deliver
the curriculum using food as the context for learning, whilst developing an

Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus
The Cooking Bus aims to encourage healthy eating by enhancing practical
cooking skills and participants’ knowledge of nutrition, food hygiene and
safety for both learners and teachers. Each visit leaves behind a COOKIT,
a box of high quality cooking equipment to help participating schools/
community groups continue the work of the HSCB.

Seafood Scotland
Seafood in Schools teaches children ‘where seafood comes from’, ‘how it
gets to our plates’, and ‘why it is good to eat as part of a healthy diet’. The
programme works with school clusters to offer interactive workshops and
assists with post-event seafood projects and visits.

Eco Schools Scotland
The ‘Food and the Environment’ Eco-Schools Scotland topic is all about
sustainable food in school. It explains some of the environmental impacts
of our food systems and highlights general concepts for making sustainable
food choices and ways to explore these in school with online resources to

Crofting Connections
Crofting Connections aims to inspire teachers and children in the crofting
counties to experience the practical and cultural aspects of crofting past,
present and future. The traditional crofting principles of providing food,
shelter, clothing, energy and cultural activities are very much aligned
with the 21st Century desire for sustainability and offer tremendous
opportunities for food education.

Dumfries House
Dumfries House supports food education from “field to fork”. Children
can plant, nurture and harvest vegetables, perform investigations, study
bio-diversities, learn about food webs, and understand the importance of
soil and how to manage it. There are also facilities for pupils to prepare
and cook produce they have harvested giving the full ‘seed to serving’
experience.
