Description
Activities
The camp is inspired by the Reggio Emilia
philosophy of education that originated in
Northern Italy. One of the key concepts of
a Reggio Emilia approach encompasses the
idea that all children are capable, passionate
and creative thinkers, who construct their
own knowledge of the world. The camp
curriculum is grounded on this idea and has
been designed to offer multi-layered, outdoor
nature experiences that will enable children
to explore science and art.

Procedure
Registration information is available at
www.westminster.edu/about/community/
preschool or by calling 724-946-7174. Please
fill out and mail in registration forms to the
address listed on the back of this brochure by
May 25, 2016. Completed registration forms
will be collected and a lottery registration will
be conducted. If more than 20 registration
forms are received for camp, names will be
placed on a waiting list. Please send payment
with this registration form. Letters will be
sent out to all registrants notifying them about
camp status. If placed on the waiting list your
check will be returned to you.
Who We Are
The curriculum for this camp was developed
by three remarkable early childhood/special
education majors at Westminster College;
Ellen DeFrances, Amanda Fagley, and Sara
Sutter. Because of their interest in quality
early learning and the Reggio Emilia approach,
the camp idea was launched. Early childhood
specialists; Mrs. Debi Roud, Head Teacher
of the Psychology Preschool Lab and Mrs.
Diana Reed, Lecturer of Education also
bring their experience to the planning and
implementation to this year’s camp. Special
thanks to the Psychology Program for the use
of the exceptional facility. The Preschool Lab is
accredited by NAEYC’s National Academy of
Early Childhood Programs.
