2. Minutes of the Last Meeting
a) Agreement of Minutes
•
The minutes of the last meeting were agreed to be correct and accurate
b) Matters Arising
•
The issue of out-of-hours heating was brought up at the staff meeting held on 6th
January. PG students are advised to contact the PG Coordinator if they require
individual heaters for out-of-hours work: S.M.Tatlock@warwick.ac.uk
•
The SU’s Societies Officer was contacted regarding the use of the Physics
concourse as a rehearsal space. While the problem is investigated by the SU, PG
students affected by inappropriate use of the concourse should keep a record of
any incidents (time, place, society involved) and report them to the PG-SSLC.
3. Social Events
The next social event will be a trip to Laser Quest in Coventry at the beginning of next
month. Interest should be registered with the social secretary:
C.B.Antunes-
Casteleiro@warwick.ac.uk
4. Any other business
a) Greenway/Connect2 project update
The work on this cycle/walkway beween Kenilworth and the University will
commence this month for 12 weeks. A ‘road bike friendly’ surface has been installed

and will ease the commute to University for students cycling from Kenilworth. A
map of the new route can be found on the project’s website:
http://kenilworthfootpaths.org.uk/connect2/
b) PGCert Transferable Skills
All materials for the PGCert in Transferable Skills are now online and are therefore
folders for the course are no longer distributed during induction week:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/pioneers/pgcts/
A session will be organised by the department to introduce the course. This will be
primarily aimed at new PG students.
c)
Elections
•
Stephen Day was elected as Milburn House representative.
•
There is still no representation from CFSA, Particle Physics or Theory.
d) SSLC Meeting
As a result of a recent SU meeting, a list of four ‘Best Practices’ for SSLCs was drawn
up:
•
Creation of a Facebook group for each SSLC
•
Points of Interest highlighted when minutes are distributed by email
•
Addition of an FAQ section to individual SSLC websites
•
Addition of photographs of SSLC representatives to SSLC webpages
It was agreed to go ahead with the latter three points but did not feel a Facebook
page would be appropriate for a PG-SSLC.
e) Library
There is still money left in the library budget for this year. PG students wishing to
suggest a book can fill out the Book Suggestion Form on the library website:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/tealea/bookform
f)
SU Education Convention
This event on Wednesday 25th January will involve all university SSLCs along with
senior academic and administrative staff to discuss university wide issues, such as
teaching and car parking. The Physics PG-SSLC will be represented by the Chair and
Secretary and all PG-SSLC representatives are also welcome to attend.
