Planning Session (1 hour and 15 minutes)
(a) You are provided with the pattern of a skirt, Butterick 4460, View F, which has front pleats, a
faced waistline and a zip.
(b) Make up the skirt in a length and fabric of your choice. Using the carbonised sheets to make a
duplicate copy, write out a shopping list of the requirements for completing the skirt, giving an
alternative for fabric, width and colour.
(c) State four reasons for your first choice of fabric.
(d) Please state your pattern size on the shopping list. The pattern should be divided for use in
the Preparation Session.
(e) Hand in the carbon copy of the shopping list, the pattern and the question paper to the
Supervisor.

Preparation Session (2 hours)
The pattern and requirements for the test will be handed to you by the Supervisor. Carry out the
following work:
(a) (i)
Adjust the pattern in any way you think necessary to achieve a good fit or alter the
length;
(ii)
If there are no alterations, answer the following question: How would you alter the pattern
to make the skirt length 5 cm longer/5 cm shorter?
(b) Plan the layout for the skirt and cut out the pieces you require, including the interfacing;
(c) Mark the necessary fitting lines and balance points;
(d) Assemble the skirt for a fitting;
(e) Any remaining time may be used to prepare the front and back waist facings with interfacing.
Note
You are to complete the preparation of the waist facing (tacking/basting only) after the
Preparation Session in readiness for use in the Examination Session.

Examination Session (3 hours)
Make up the skirt to show:
(a) the centre front and side front seams;

(b) the completion of the pleats;

(c) the making of the back and side seams;
(neaten 20 cm only of each seam)

(d) the application of the zip;
[10]
(e) the making and application of the waist facing;
[14]
(f)
the application of a hook and eye above the zip;
[4]
(g) 10 cm of hem across a side seam;
[5]
(h) the final finish.
