Topics:
FY12 Grant Process – Discuss process put together by Grants subcommittee for
allocation of dollars in FY12.
Dennis presented the process proposed by the Grants subcommittee for the FY12 grant
cycle.
Dollars will be limited and are estimated to be ~ $1M Forest Service Dollars. Final
amount won’t be known until a budget is settled. BLM could potentially have a few
dollars in the mix.
Process agreed upon:
 50/50 split to states, same as last year
 WA DNR will have a closed process and work with cooperators to allocate funds
(similar to last year).
 ODF will serve as clearinghouse for all Oregon proposals
 New this year, ODF will include non-state proposals
 For the Oregon proposals a four member interagency committee will be pulled
together to review applications. The makeup of the committee has not been finalized
but will potentially include one member each from the following groups: ODF, USFS,
State Fire Marshalls, and County or other impartial party such as the University of
Oregon Partners for Disaster Relief or similar.
 State and non-state applications will go to two different web addresses within a
central depository.
 Who is eligible to apply will be setup on the website – for both states applications are
accepted only from each state’s risk assessment ‘red’ areas.

CY12 Working Team Potential Projects
Leanne suggested revisiting the CAR (community at risk) list for Oregon and
Washington for updating. The lists have not been updated since inception in 2000/2001.
Will work with ODF and DNR to facilitate process for updating.
 Action Item: talk to your field folks for input on their local communities at risk.
Leanne also suggested getting serious about designating ‘priority areas’ to get in line
with work being done by FS on ‘integrated landscapes’. We’ve discussed something
similar before though had tabled the notion waiting for West Wide Risk Assessment and
other products to be produced. Several of these products should be finalized this year.
We will plan to look at areas where more than one agency can be working together on a
project to protect WUI and/or improve resilience.
