Overview
Product name
Anti-S100 antibody - Astrocyte Marker
Description
Rabbit polyclonal to S100 - Astrocyte Marker
Specificity
This antibody recognizes all the S-100 isoforms, proteins of 21-24kDa identified as the A and B
subunits of S100 protein. It stains schwannomas, ependymomas, astrogliomas, and almost all
benign and malignant melanomas and their metastases. S100 protein is also expressed in the
antigen presenting cells such as the Langerhans cells in skin and interdigitating reticulum cells in
the paracortex of lymph nodes.
Tested applications
IHC (PFA fixed), IHC-FoFr, IHC-P, WB, ICC/IF
Species reactivity
Reacts with: Mouse, Rat, Cow, Human, Pig
Immunogen
Recombinant full length protein (Cow).
Positive control
Melanoma or Schwannoma
General notes
Contains a proprietary preservative that is not sodium azide or thimerosal

Target
Function
Weakly binds calcium but binds zinc very tightly-distinct binding sites with different affinities exist
for both ions on each monomer. Physiological concentrations of potassium ion antagonize the
binding of both divalent cations, especially affecting high-affinity calcium-binding sites.
Tissue specificity
Highly prevalent in heart. Also found in lesser quantities in skeletal muscle and brain.
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the S-100 family.
Contains 2 EF-hand domains.
Cellular localization
Cytoplasm.
