Exciting new changes coming
to Highway 7
Your new vivastation is now
open in Markham!
VivaNext, York Region’s visionary plan
to provide rapid transit, relieve traffic
congestion, and help shape our Region’s
future growth, is now underway with the
start of rapidways construction along
Highway 7 East.
Come and check out the future of rapid transit
in York Region, at the corner of Enterprise
Drive and Warden Avenue. You can see for
yourself how much more comfortable,
convenient and accessible it will be to ride
Rapidways – dedicated
lanes for Viva
vehicles in the
centre of the road
– will extend 7.5
kilometres from
Bayview to Warden,
and feature 22
beautiful new vivastations.
In addition to making it easier and more
convenient for everyone to travel along
Highway 7, the rapidways will make the
route more appealing than ever before.
This is because wide and welcoming
sidewalks, landscaped boulevards,
elegant lighting and comfortable benches
are also included in the plan.
Viva once the rapidways are built. This first
rapidway station, with its airy glass canopy,
heated enclosure and ample seating, is just
one of 71 vivastations to come.
The Highway 7 rapidways will be part of
the larger region-wide transit network,
providing faster trips and easy connections
to YRT\Viva and other transit systems.

Keeping traffic moving is a top priority
Construction in stages
While we’re all excited about the future, we also understand
that construction is an inconvenience. We can’t promise to
complete this project overnight, but we will do whatever
we can to minimize its disruption to people who live near,
or use, Highway 7.
Our goal is to minimize disruption to the local
community, businesses, transit users and drivers
during construction. To that end, we have planned
construction so it largely occurs off the road to allow the same
number of existing traffic lanes to remain open throughout
the work. If we need to close a lane, we’ll try to do it during
off-peak hours.
Our construction
team takes your
time and access
needs seriously,
and we’ve
planned how
we’re going to
build this project
with you in mind. Whether you live in the neighbourhood, or
use Highway 7 for work, shopping or play, we will do our best
to keep traffic lanes open, minimize delays, and keep
traffic moving.
We will keep you informed throughout the project, so you know
what work is going on, how long it will take, and where it’s
happening. And, we will make sure you always know where to
go for more information, so you can avoid surprises.
Keeping you informed throughout construction
Coping with construction is a lot easier when you know what
to expect, where, and for how long. In addition to regular
project newsletters like
this one, you will receive
timely construction
bulletins and invitations
to scheduled public
meetings. You can
also sign up to receive
customized email
updates. For additional
questions or concerns,
your vivaNext Community Liaison, Nimisha Raja, is always
within easy reach at 905.886.6767 ext. 1023.
The project has five main stages. While the work will be done
in sequence, some stages will overlap, and the timing and
duration of each stage will vary along the route.
Stage 1 E
arly works including installation of temporary
traffic signals and removal of centre medians
Stage 2 Widening on one side of the road
Stage 3 Widening on other side of the road
Stage 4 Building the centre rapidway lanes
Stage 5 Building the new vivastations
Work has begun in the west end
between Bayview Avenue and
Highway 404. Installation of temporary
traffic signals began in February and will be
followed by road and boulevard widening.
