Islamic Law & Women’s Rights
the view from Malaysia
This lecture will focus on Sisters in Islam,
a Malaysian women’s rights group that
advocates the reform of Muslim family
law through the Islamic legal tradition.
Dr. Moustafa will present original
survey data, which sheds light on the
opportunities and constraints that these
activists face as they push for women’s
rights in the name of Islam. Dr. Moustafa is
Associate Professor of International Studies
and holds the Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in
Religion and Cultural Change.
