PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• The Terry College’s Real Estate Program, which was founded in the early 1960s, is consistently recognized as one of the best
in the nation. It is ranked No. 3 in the country in the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings. The focus on superior
education and support of strong research programs are fundamental to the program’s mission and success.
• As the home to one of the largest Real Estate PhD programs in the nation, the Real Estate Program is producing future scholars
and educators of the next generation.
• The program has a strong reputation for providing a quality educational experience. Employers often comment on the excellent
analytical skills that Real Estate students exhibit, as well as their ability to think outside the box. A rigorous academic curriculum
coupled with the hands-on experience gained through Terry’s internship program give our graduates a decided advantage in a
competitive marketplace.
FACULTY ACTIVITY
• One of the premier academic journals in real estate, The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, has been housed at Terry
since its inception.
• One faculty member recently received the George Bloom Award from the American Real Estate and Urban Economics
Association. The award recognizes distinguished contribution to the real estate field as a whole and to the Association.
• The American Real Estate Society recently recognized one faculty member with the Pioneer Award for his lasting contribution
to real estate education and research.
• Our faculty are among the top publishers in the premier real estate journals. One faculty member was recently ranked as the 6th
most-cited real estate researcher in the United States.
• Real Estate faculty serve on the Board of Trustees of the UGA Real Estate Foundation, on the steering group overseeing the
development of a historic preservation master plan for the University and previously served on the Board of Directors of the
American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.
• Faculty members disseminate their knowledge through external presentations at numerous national and international meetings.
STUDENT QUALITY
• More than 120 undergraduates major in Real Estate at Terry. MBA-level classes enroll approximately 30 students, with a strong
core of those entering the program only to study real estate. Students are attracted to real estate because it allows them to focus
their energy and aptitude on an applied area with direct links to careers in the workplace.
• The Real Estate Internship Program offers a unique educational opportunity for our students by providing hands-on experience.
• MBA Students regularly compete in the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Case Competition.
PLACEMENT SUCCESS
• Our doctoral program has a strong record of placing professors and chairholders at a number of universities, including Florida
State, Penn State, Auburn, Louisiana State, Brigham Young, Denver, Arizona State, and internationally in Canada, Singapore
and Korea.
• The Real Estate Program maintains an active job-placement service for new graduates and alumni. In a typical year, more than
50 full-time positions are advertised through our Real Estate Listserv.
• Our student résumé book is delivered to more than 450 firms on a semi-annual basis.
