Lieutenant Kevin Miller is an 18-year veteran of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office with 22-years sworn law enforcement experience. Lt. Miller is assigned to the Operations Division as the Area
Commander for North Area Patrol Operations.
Lt. Miller has 16-years’ experience as a SWAT Operator. During his time with SWAT he performed the duties of Team-Leader, Entry Operator and Sniper. Lt. Miller has 16-years’ experience as a certified law enforcement instructor and 11-years’ experience as a patrol Sergeant. The remainder of Lt. Miller’s experience was as a patrol deputy and drug enforcement investigator.
Lt. Miller is a California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Academy/Advanced Officer
Instructor for the College of the Redwoods Police Academy. Courses of instruction include: Defensive
Tactics, Force Option Simulator/Use-of-Force and Scenario Evaluator.
Additionally, Lt. Miller is a certified Level 1 POST Instructor/Facilitator and currently certified as an instructor for the Sheriff’s Office in: Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Use-of-Force, Critical Threat/Active
Shooter Response, Simunitions, Electronic Weapons (Taser), Chemical Agents, Less-Lethal Munitions,
Critical Incident De-escalation, Counter-Terrorism Operations/Response and the Incident Command
System (NIMS/SEMS). Lt. Miller has attended the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Law
Enforcement WMD Response Course and is a Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) with the Northern
California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC).
Lt. Miller is a consultant for the Humboldt County Active Threat/Active Shooter Program and has participated as a subject matter expert for the CAL-OES Active Shooter Awareness Course.
Lt. Miller has earned POST Advanced, Supervisory, Advanced SWAT and SWAT Commander Certificates and is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) Class 235.
