Institutional Effectiveness Achievement Report
Aerospace: BS Aerospace Maintenance Mgmt Concentration 20142015 Institutional Effectiveness Achievements Report
Unit Head: Ronald Ferrara
Reports to: College of Basic & Applied Sciences
Mission: The Maintenance Management concentration offers instruction designed for students who are interested in careers as skilled technicians or managers in aircraft manufacturing, aircraft repair, engine
overhaul, or space vehicle maintenance. The fundamental skills needed in aerospace vehicle repair and maintenance are stressed together with management skills for such careers. MTSU is an approved Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) FAR Part 147 maintenance technician school for airframe and powerplant mechanics.
Use of Prior Results : We currently maintain our FAA Part 147 cerification status and as such will not make any changes.
Unit/Departmental Goals:
1. The Maintenance Management
concentration will maintain its FAR Part 147
approval status.

Use of Prior Results : We have recently changed the software we allow the students to use to practice for the FAA written exams. The software that was replaced was old and many of the questions/answer were
somewhat outdated. We felt this might have been leading to some students performing at a lower level on the written tests than they should have been.
Unit/Departmental Goals:
2. Students will meet or exceed the national
norm for each of the curriculum areas of the
147 exam.
Measure 1:

We will compare our students performance on Responsible:

Analysis of Results for Measure 1. Supporting Document(s):
(include strengths & weaknesses):
For the last two years, we have been
above the national norm for the
Airframe and General sections of the
testing. We have been below the
national norm for the Powerpalnt
section.

performance
will improve.
It is felt
much of their
issues were
attributed to
the older
software they
were using to
study.

Use of Prior Results : We implemented a capstone course, AERO 4340,which requires each graduate to complete thier oral and practical exams for thier airframe and powerplant licenses prior to graduation.
Unit/Departmental Goals:
3. Graduating students will obtain FAA
Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.
Measure 1:
We will compare the list of graduating
Maintenance Management students with the
list of those who have qualified for the A+P
certification.
