How to Use Identity Finder
Click Start, Programs and Identity Finder
You will see the Identity Finder Profile Password
window.
You MUST enter a password. Enter any password you
would like; this will be the password you will use every
time you run Identity finder in the future.
Next you will see the Identity Finder Wizard.
Click on Open Advanced Interface. There may be
another pop up window appear after Open Advanced
Interface is selected. If so, click on Yes.
Next, click on the down arrow under Start, located in
the top left corner.
Then click on Start Search Wizard
When you see the Identity Finder Wizard window
appear, you will notice that the “Social Security
Numbers” and Credit Card numbers” options are
selected and grayed out.
Click on Next.
The Identity Finder Wizard Locations window will
appear.
By default, the “Files and Compressed Files” and “Email and Attachments” options are selected.
Also, here you can specify to look for files on the “My
Documents and Settings” or in “My Computer”. Make
sure the “My Computer” option is selected.
Click on Next.
How to Use Identity Finder
The Identity Finder Confirmation window will appear.
Click on Finish to start the search.
Next, you should see the Identity Finder Status
window appear. The scan should take about an hour
depending on the amount of data on your hard disk.
When the search is finished, a Identity Finder Search
Summary window will appear.
Click on Exit.
If Identity Finder finds any suspicious data on your computer, it will show a window with the results. You can click on
any of the files and select one of the following options:
a. Shred = This option will delete the entire file from your computer.
b. Scrub = This option will replace any sensitive data within the suspicious file with X’s.
This option doesn’t work with all file types; it will work with text, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files.
c. Ignore = This option will ignore the suspicious file for this search only, it will not ignore this file for future or
scheduled searches.
Please remember that Identity Finder is scheduled to run the first Thursday of every month at 2:00 AM. If your
computer is not on at that time, Identity Finder will run the next time you logon to your computer. A summary of
results is sent to ITD security office (No files are sent).
