Internet retail giant to speak at Cameron
The Cameron University School of Business is excited to announce Patrick Byrne, Ph.D., founder,
President and CEO of Overstock.com® will speak on campus Thursday, September 28, at 10 a.m. in the
Shepler Center Mezzanine.
“Dr. Byrne is a fascinating businessman,” said Sylvia Burgess, J.D., Dean of the School of Business. “His
expertise and enthusiasm for entrepreneurship will be of interest to students in every program of study and
to members of the community.”
According to iSolutions magazine, since Byrne launched Overstock.com® in 1999, he and his company
have garnered attention from numerous national media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, ABC
News, Fortune, CBS Marketwatch, and Business Week. He is a frequent guest on Bloomberg TV and
CNBC. In 2002, Byrne was named to Business Week's list of the 25 most influential people in e-Business.
In 2003 Ernst & Young awarded Byrne an "Entrepreneur of the Year" award in the category of Lifetime
Achievement. Byrne received a bachelor's degree in Asian Studies & Philosophy from Dartmouth College,
a master's degree in Philosophy from Cambridge University as a Marshall scholar, and a doctorate in
Philosophy from Stanford University.”
