Cameron University agriculture department
offering landscape design course this Fall
Lush lawns, trimmed trees, fragrant flowers – the perfect landscape is one class away.
The Cameron University department of agriculture is offering “Landscape Design” during the Fall 2005
semester. The class is designed to help interested individuals learn about developing, installing and
maintaining a landscape.
Taught by adjunct horticulture instructor Jim Coe, the course is available for three hours of college credit or
can be audited for non-credit. The class meets from 5:30 to 7:20 p.m. every Monday with a lab during the
same time period on Wednesdays. The course begins meeting Monday, Aug. 22.
Coe is a retired Comanche County OSU Extension Educator where he taught the Master Gardener
Program. He has taught horticulture classes at Cameron University, and is a feature horticulture writer for
the Lawton Constitution and Oklahoma Gardening.
Topics to be covered during the course include landscape plan development, landscape plant selection,
irrigation, fertilizers, mowing, weed control, and insect and disease prevention.
“The primary objective of this course is to develop landscape designs with emphasis on analysis, small
landscape plans, effective use of plant material, structure features in the landscape, landscape business
management and landscape maintenance,” said Dr. Jerry Dodd, Chair of the department of agriculture.

The course is suitable for landscapers just entering the field, but will also contain sufficient content to be
useful to experienced landscape managers. Homeowners are encouraged to attend.
Dodd said the course is ideal for managers and technicians from professional lawn care services, golf
course maintenance, college students and homeowners who maintain their own landscape.
Those wishing to enroll can do so by call the Cameron department of agriculture at 580.581.2275.
Enrollment will continue at CU through Monday, Aug. 29.
