CU to host Inventions and Technology Camp
Cameron University will host an “Inventions and Technology Camp” next week with the sole purpose of
teaching students to unlock their potential for invention while exploring their creativity.
The camp is open for middle school students, those entering grades 6th through 9th this fall, and will offer
students a chance to become inventors through the use of modern technology.
During the hands-on camp, participants will use their creativity to make at least five amazing inventions,
each with several variations. Using Boston’s Museum of Science inventor’s workshop kit, participants can
create such items as self-propelled vehicles, music makers and telescoping arms.
One of the camp’s workshops will cover safety and technical guidelines, while others will explore the
scientific principles behind the inventions.
Students will also learn about the inventions of such historical figures as Benjamin Franklin, George
Washington Carver and Eli Whitney, as well as the creations from other young inventors like themselves.
“With the help of programs such as this, one young inventor created a Christmas tree light bulb that served
also as a fire alarm in case the tree caught fire,” said Kurtis Koll, Ph.D., Cameron professor of physical
sciences and director of the camp. “This tree creation is just one of many examples geared toward helping
young minds explore the realm of inventions.”
The cost for participation in the camp is $30 per student and enrollment is limited to 25 students.
