Draft Resolution on Multidisciplinary Writing Anthology
Whereas Written Communication has been identified as a system-wide core competency;
Whereas competence in Written Communication is essential to success in all professions
and to meaningful civic engagement;
Whereas the teaching of writing is a responsibility shared by all departments;
Whereas the writing conventions of different disciplines are equally valued;
Whereas the students of Western Carolina University regularly produce outstanding
undergraduate writing;
Whereas the Department of English has volunteered to coordinate the assembly and
publication of the volume for the use of all the university’s departments;
THEREFORE,
Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate encourages all academic departments of Western
Carolina University to submit one piece of outstanding undergraduate writing to the
Multidisciplinary Writing Anthology each year.
