23rd Annual HBCU Faculty Development Network Conference
New Orleans, Louisiana
Theme: Transforming the Teaching and Learning Environment
Colleges and universities of all types are engaged in serious efforts to transform the learning
environment of their institutions. One of the drivers at the center of these efforts is creating a
technology-rich environment that leads to positive increases in achieving student learning
outcomes.
Transforming a learning environment involves everyone within the institution. Each of us must play
an active role in developing, supporting, and maintaining a transformative learning culture. To
support all learners, as well as their unique needs and preferences, learning environments must
become more dynamic and synergistic. The question arises as to how do we create this synergy at
HBCUs? It takes an articulated process to transform learning environments and change the learner,
the role of the professor, and the various units that support the teaching and learning function.
We cordially invite you to participate in the 23rd Annual HBCU Faculty Development Network
Conference to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana October 20-22, 2016. The conference offers
three full days of workshops, concurrent sessions, round-table discussions, plenary sessions, and a
poster session. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for participants to network and
exchange ideas proven successful in teaching and learning, network with colleagues, and develop
practical skills that can be put to immediate use upon return to their respective institutions. Each will
take away from this conference, useful information that works and will assist you in enhancing your
current role. We invite faculty, administrators, and personnel of all areas that support the academic
program to submit proposals for consideration at this year's conference that support our theme of
“Transforming the Teaching and Learning Environment.” Conference proposals should be in line
with one of the strands.
