UPS requires a total of 32 units to graduate.
(1) The foreign language graduation requirement should be satisfied early. (2) Students are encouraged to
take IPE first-year seminars. (3) IPE “tools” course: CSOC 103, 200, 204 or 230; ECON 170; IPE 201;
MATH 160 or 260; PG 102. MATH, PG and CSOC are recommended for semesters 1-2. ECON and IPE
are recommended for semesters 2-3 and 4. Take ECON 371 as soon as possible after ECON 170 -- in
semester 4 or 5. (4) To be chosen in consultation with IPE advisor. May not be used to meet University
core. (5) Students are encouraged to delay taking IPE 301 until they are ready to choose a thesis topic. They
should then take 401 as soon as possible after 301 so that work done in 301 can continue in 401 (6) Of the
three units of upper division coursework required outside the first major, the Connections course will count
for one unless it is used to meet a major requirement.
