Job Title:
Research Technician in Immunology

Salary:
£27,246 - £31,930 per annum inclusive of London allowance.
Location:
Royal Free Campus, Rowland Hill Street, Hampstead, London, NW3 2PF
Hours of work:
36.5 hours per week (excluding lunch hours)
Annual leave:
27 days per annum plus Bank Holidays and College Closure days
Duration:
The position is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
Job Summary
A Research Technician post is available in the laboratory of Professor David Sansom investigating
the genetic basis of human T cell responses.
Duties and Responsibilities

To process blood samples and perform immune cell stimulation assays.

To carry out experiments using detailed blood phenotyping using multicolour flow cytometry

To be fastidious in maintaining accurate and up-to-date laboratory records and databases

To liaise effectively with UCL Bioresource and potential blood donors

To comply with the principles of Good Clinical and laboratory Practice.

To ensure safe disposal of hazardous waste.

To maintain awareness of health and safety regulations; to make sure all risk assessments are
up-to-date and to ensure that all codes of practice are being followed.

To ensure an adequate supply of lab consumables; to place orders for consumables using the
UCL i-Procurement system and to follow up on orders as required.

To contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required.

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in
consultation with the post holder.

The postholder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the
job as requested by the line manager.

The postholder will actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities and Race

The postholder will maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety
Regulations.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
BSc (or equivalent degree) in a biological subject
Experience of blood separation techniques
Experience of tissue culture and growing cell lines
Experience of flow cytometry of blood cells
Experience of Processing of human blood samples and multicolour flow
cytometry
Sound understanding of Health & Safety issues
Desirable:
General understanding of immunology
Understanding of human blood handling and sample processing
Phlebotomy experience
Communication
Essential:
Attention to detail and careful approach
Accurate and complete record keeping
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to manage time and work to deadlines
