a method for better policing, based on a case study of Pune police.

Roles and Experiences:


Interaction with the criminal justice functionaries at different levels of hierarchy
and studying the scope of social work within the system
Organized a panel discussion in Ruparel College, Mumbai for the youth audience.
The panel discussion brought together different criminal justice functionaries,
NGOs, medical experts, academicians and social workers on the same platform to


debate the “Issue of Legalization of Drugs and its Implications for Mumbai
youth”
Acted as resource person for facilitating the process of rehabilitation of the
substance abusers booked by the Anti Narcotic Cell under NDPS Act.
Worked for creating awareness about substance abuse in different colleges of
Mumbai by interactive programs and seminars.

FIELD EXPOSURE:
1) Part of the team assessing the development plan of Phaltan Municipal Corporation
in Maharashtra over a period of 14 days field tour organized by the Dept. of HSS,
IIT Bombay.
2) Rural camps in hinterland Maharashtra to understand the rural way of life, issues
relating to watershed management, natural resource management and the social
stratification.
3) Study tour to Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur to observe and interact with the
faculty and trainees of the academy, on the issues relating to the criminal justice
system.
4) Study tour to Tihar Jail, New Delhi, interaction with the prison officers and the
prisoners to understand the new improved methods of policing inside the jail that
makes it the ideal prison in India.
5) Study team on the rehabilitation efforts of the Tehri dam project and the
formation of NewTehri.
6) Volunteer for relief work in Gujarat following the Bhuj Earthquake on
26thJanuary 2001. Worked in different capacities over a period of 21days in the
relief processes.
7) Ample exposure to rural areas and village life during course work and field
assignments.
PUBLICATIONS:
1) Worked on ‘Cyber crime and laws in the networked society’ under the guidance
of Dr. D R Singh, Professor and Head, Dept. of Criminology and Correctional
Administration, in partial fulfillment of the MA degree course and submitted a
report to the academic section of TISS in Feb-2002.
2) Conducted a study on ‘Alternative theories of Development- A postmodern
Reflection’ and submitted a report to the dept. of HSS in partial fulfillment of the
course.
3) Conducted a study on Pune Police and submitted a report on ‘Policing in India-In
search of change’ to NCAS Pune at the end of student internship.
