Choice #1 – Thermal Energy Experiment
Product: Conduct an experiment using thermal energy and write up the results.
Read all the steps before starting.
__1. Review the rubric in the evaluation step.
__2. Review your notes from the WebQuest.
__3. Gather the materials for your experiment:
Plastic 1- liter bottle
Large balloon
Bowl of hot (not boiling) water
Bowl of ice cold water
__5. Review the procedure for the experiment: hot
cold
Procedure
1. Cool the balloon and the bottle in the freezer for 5 minutes.
2. Put the balloon over the mouth of the bottle making sure that the air
has been squeezed from the balloon.
3. Place the bottle into the hot water.
4. Observe what happens to the balloon.
5. Place the bottle into the cold water and observe the balloon.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 at least one more time.
