How to recycle other items
How do I get rid of old electronic equipment?
Most waste electrical and electronic equipment
(WEEE) can be recycled. If you see the crossed
out wheelie bin symbol on your WEEE it can be
recycled.
Take your WEEEs to high street electrical retailers
like Currys PC World and they will recycle it for
you. Some councils also have special WEEE bins
where you can dispose of your items.

batteries?
Batteries are disposed of in separate
bins which are located around the
estate and emptied routinely.
You can find battery bins located across
UCL. There’s one on the Ground Floor
of Bedford Way.

Be Waterwise
it takes at least twice as much water to produce a plastic
water bottle as the amount of water in the water bottle
about 18,900 litres of water are needed to produce 1kg
of roasted coffee. That means the water footprint for a
standard cup of coffee (125 ml) is about 130 litres of
water!
the water footprint of an average one cotton T-shirt is
about about 2500 litres!

Winning PALS Green Impact Logo – Sandy Gould
Environmental Improvement Award - squeeze my green balls
Anna Cox, Yvonne Rogers and Sarah Gallagher (all UCLIC)
To attract attention, we will create an interactive installation - a squeeze kiosk - based
on our existing research. The kiosk consists of a set of green squeezy balls that vary in
shade from light to dark. Staff and students will be invited to rate themselves each
day on how green they have been that day.
The kiosk will be accompanied by a series of reminders of easily adopted proenvironmental behaviours e.g. choosing tap water over bottled, walking or cycling to
work, using a canvas bag, turning the heating down, printing double sided etc.
The data collected by the interactive kiosk at each location will be displayed via the
video screens in each of the buildings, creating healthy competition between
locations, and nudging people into making pro-environmental choices. We will
evaluate the project in order to measure its impact.
