Student Trustee Jackson called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.
The following colleges were present: LAHC, LAMC, LAPC, LATTC (9:50 a.m.)
and LAVC.
Absent: LACC, ELAC, LASC, and WLAC.
A quorum was not yet present.
PUBLIC SPEAKERS
Mr. Ali Asghar, ASO Senator, LAPC gave his thanks to Student Trustee
Jackson and all of the outgoing ASO/ASU/ASG Presidents for their leadership
throughout the year and also gave congratulations to the incoming
ASO/ASU/ASG Presidents for the 2015-16 year. Mr. Asghar also announced
that he is running for President of the Student Senate of the California
Community Colleges (SSCCC), Region 7.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
The City of Los Angeles Department on Disability’s Information and Referral
Program and Overview of the 2015 Disability Mentoring Day
Ms. Adriana Miranda, Management Analyst, City of Los Angeles, distributed
flyers and gave a brief overview of the City’s Disability Mentoring Day to be
held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Ms. Miranda distributed flyers and

gave a brief overview of the City’s “March to the Fest” event in support of
the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act to be held on
Saturday, July 11, 2015. Ms. Miranda also shared a flyer that detailed the
information and referral services provided by the City’s Computerized
Information Center (CIC).
Urban Car Share Information Presentation
Mr. William Paige, President of Urban Car Share, distributed flyers and
business cards and gave a brief overview of the services his company
provides. Mr. Paige offered to provide a car-sharing plan to meet the needs
of each of the LACCD college populations.

A quorum was now present.
There being no objection, Liaison Reports was taken out of order on the
agenda.
LIAISON REPORTS
District Academic Senate (DAS) Report
Mr. Donald Gauthier, President, District Academic Senate, shared
information on the District Academic Senate meetings for the past year and
answered several questions from the Committee regarding LACCD processes
and procedures for transcripts, curriculum, articulation, and priority
registration.

LACCD BOT ASO-Sponsored Candidate Forums held in February 2015
Student Trustee Jackson reported on how the forums were created and
organized. The primary reason for holding the forums was to provide an
opportunity for students to hear and address the candidates.

There being no objection, the Committee recessed to the Student Trustee
Elections Committee Ballot Counting at 11:00 a.m.
There being no objection, the Committee reconvened to the Regular Student
Affairs Committee meeting at 12:30 p.m.

12:30 p.m.)
There being no objection, the LAPC Associated Student Body President was
permitted to provide a report to the Student Affairs Committee.

LIAISON REPORTS (continued)
District Office Report
Ms. Bobbi Kimble, District Office Liaison, thanked Student Trustee Jackson
for his professionalism throughout the past year.
Ms. Kimble also
announced that the District’s Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Plan will
be reviewed at next month’s SAC meeting.
ASO/ASU/ASG Advisors Report
None.
Chief Student Services Officers (CSSO) Report
Mr. Joe Ramirez, Chief Student Services Officer Liaison, LAMC,
acknowledged the many important issues that the Committee raised this
year and emphasized the important role that SAC members face as
representatives of the largest community college district in the state. Mr.

Ramirez announced that Assembly Bill 626 (AB 626) relating to California
Community Colleges could possibly threaten the funding for the student
success initiative.
There being no objection, the Matters For/Of the Board of Trustees was
taken out of order on the agenda.
MATTERS FOR/OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The issue regarding the DEC system and the student parking discounts for
ASO members at LAHC has been resolved.
STUDENT TRUSTEE MONTHLY REPORT
Student Trustee Jackson reported on the following topics:
• Student Trustee Jackson thanked the SAC members for their support
throughout the year.
• Student Trustee Jackson will be visiting a Naval Station in San Diego
on June 19-20, 2015 along with Chancellor Rodriguez and another
Board member to discuss online courses for Navy personnel.
• Student Trustee Jackson may be on the California Community Colleges
Chancellor’s advisory committee to reintegrate formerly incarcerated
individuals back into society.
• Student Trustee Jackson encouraged the new ASO Presidents to attend
Board meetings and sit at the Resource table.
• Student Trustee Jackson will continue working on a Cultural Exchange
program with LACCD.

Resource Table for the Board meetings of May 13, 2015 to be held at LAMC
and on May 27, 2015 to be held at the ESC.

SUMMARY – NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Student Affairs Committee is scheduled for
Friday, June 12, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. This meeting will be held at the LACCD
Educational Services Center in the Board Room. The deadline for submitting
agenda items is Monday, June 1, 2015.
