The Faculty of Ocean Studies is proposing to offer a short course on
Ocean Economy: Sustainable Business Opportunities – (3 credits)
OBJECTIVE
Topics
Having studied the Short Course, participants should be able to:
 Identify the scope of the Ocean Economy and the need for sustainability;
 Distinguish the different marine resources that can be exploited with its
impacts and mitigation measures;
 Apply creativity techniques in business idea generation and ascertain the
socio-economic importance of entrepreneurship;
 Develop a business plan for marine exploitable resources and
entrepreneurship skills;
 Recognize the steps in setting up small businesses and identify sources of
financial and non-financial support for SME’s.











The course is designed for those who have an interest in ocean economy
business and entrepreneurship. This course also appeals to those who want to
learn more about the ocean economy and marine resource exploitation for
sustainable business developments. Existing entrepreneurs or those going to be
involved in the marine sector will also benefit from this short course.
University students, HSC holders with a minimum of one pass can also apply.
Special case can be considered if participants have only an SC level with work
experience.
Tentative dates: 18th April to 25th May 2015
Duration: 45 hours (14 Days – afternoon sessions)
Rs 500 (non-refundable)
Course: Rs 14,500 per participant
Participants will be awarded 3 credits upon successful completion of the short course
(Attendance + Assessment + Exams).
