AACN IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE the fourth annual leadership development program for
nursing leaders. Offered by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia, PA, this four-day program will be taught by Wharton faculty, who will present
relevant and timely content designed to advance chief academic administrators to a higher
level of leadership. The all-inclusive fee covers tuition, lodging, and meal expenses.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
77 Provide the concepts and tools needed to enhance leadership capacity and hone the skills that
are essential to move forward strategically as an academic leader.
77 Address issues around managing and leading change, influencing and galvanizing a diverse set of
stakeholders, developing value innovation, and building strategic relationships in highly volatile
environments.
77 Equip participants with an advanced set of negotiation, leadership, entrepreneurship, and
influencing skills.
77 Facilitate interactions and collaboration within the cohort, providing participants with a valuable
and ongoing resource network.
LEARNER OBJECTIVES
Program participants will gain the ability to:
77 Manage and lead change at an enterprise level.
77 Strategically influence and negotiate.
77 Skillfully strategize and innovate value with internal and external stakeholders.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This program is open to deans/directors and associate deans/directors from AACN member schools
who currently serve as the chief or associate chief nursing academic officer. Registration is limited to
40 participants via a competitive application process. Applications from members aspiring to the
above roles or currently in other key leadership positions will be considered as space allows.
PROGRAM SESSIONS
Stakeholder Management – Methodologies for mapping stakeholder groups
in order to build unique stakeholder management strategies will be discussed.
Strategic Agility – The concept of understanding the need to deliver shortterm results while building agile strategies for longer-term objectives, often
in a highly uncertain environment, will be examined.
Leadership from the Field – Leadership lessons on managing and leading
in an academic setting in a difficult and uncertain external environment
will be shared.
Negotiation: Influence and Persuasion – A full-day workshop focused on
strengthening influence and persuasion skills that are necessary to win support
for important initiatives, achieve organizational alignment, and implement
strategies will be offered.
Entrepreneurship and Revenue Generation in Higher Education – An
in-depth discussion, illustrative case studies, and tips on how to develop an
entrepreneurial culture that can generate additional revenue for the institution
will be delivered.
Value Innovation: Finding New Growth Opportunities – While traditional
strategy emphasizes competitive positioning within existing industries or
operations, “value innovation” and new or uncontested opportunities for
meeting institutional needs will be explored.
