Race to the Top
ESPN Internship Vaults
Student to Success
College of DuPage student
Allison Horne credits her
Mass Communications course
for providing three key
ingredients for future success:
connections, networking and
opportunities. Through her internship, Horne said, she gained a
foothold in a tough industry she otherwise wouldn't have had.
“The greatest thing my internship at ESPN did for me was give me
connections in the market that I want to make a career for myself
in,” she said. “Internships have always helped me so much – I've
completed four throughout my undergraduate and graduate
career, and every single one of them has done something positive
for me.” Professor Sandy Fries, her Mass Communications
mentor, said students don’t always realize the golden
opportunities of internships. Read More

COD ‘Bucks the Trend’ with 1.4 Percent
Increase in Fall FTE Enrollment
College of DuPage 10th Day Full-Time Equivalent (FTE)
enrollment is up 1.4 percent for fall to 15,393. Net Total
Headcount (full- and part-time students) is listed at 27,034.
“This excellent news reflects our continued effort to meet the
needs of our students,” said College of DuPage President
Dr. Robert L. Breuder. “They come here for a top-level
education that provides exceptional career and transfer
opportunities, and that is what we provide.” COD's
enrollment increase appears to be bucking the trend
among community colleges and four-year universities,
Breuder noted. “Full-time enrollment is moving in the wrong
direction for many two- and four-year schools, with FTE
figures decreasing from a few percentage points to doubledigits at institutions in Illinois and throughout the country,”
he said. Read More

More Kudos to…COD Math professor Anthony Lenard,
who received this thank you letter from student Yogesh
Italia who came to the U.S. from India in 2009: “Hi
Professor Lenard – this is Yogesh Italia, one of the students
you helped in the summer of 2009 when I moved here from
India. I wanted to reconnect with you and thank you again for
the help that you offered to me when I started my education
in the USA. The way you helped me place out of various
classes (Physics 1 and 2), worked to figure out my schedule
that summer, and helped me finish 52 credits in summer and
fall has paved an easy path for me to further my college
education…I still recalling just arriving in the U.S. and trying
to figure my education out and coming to COD. Thank you
for all the help you offered to me.” Read more about
Yogesh’s success.
And More Kudos…to WDCB News Coordinator Brian
O’Keefe, who was recently asked to serve on the Local
