Academics
Reading Workshop- The Day the Crayons Quit, Toys’ First Snow,
Toy Dance Party, practiced finding “good fit” books during read-toself, brainstormed ideas for what we could share after read-toself Writing Workshop – Opinion writing, O.R.E.O. class chart (parts of
an opinion piece), Oreo tasting- “which one was your favorite?”
opinion writing, watched “Red is Best”, made a class chart about
the different opinions and the reason for each one
Word Study - “op”, “ot” and “ock”, “if I can spell…”, making words,
picture sort, took assessment on Thursday 1/14
Math - took the MAP test, building the hundred chart activity,
hundred chart arrow activity (+1, -1, +10, -10), missing numbers
game, wacky one hundred chart activity, fill in the pieces activity
Social Studies - learning all about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Martin’s Big Words, A Picture
Book of Martin Luther King Jr., Martin Luther King Jr., watched a
video of MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, watched a video about
MLK’s life, wrote down what they learned about MLK this week
Science - On Monday, we had a visitor from “Inventure” Kids’
Science Lab who met with all 4 first grade classes, kids worked
with a partner to illuminate their lightbulb using only a battery
and aluminum foil
