COD Veterans Expedition & Teambuilding (VET) Scholarship 2016
Twelve $960 scholarships will be awarded for 2016.
Rockies Speech 1120: Small Group Communication This is a unique and adventure-based way to meet
the Contemporary Life Skills requirement or the speech requirement for AAS degrees. Explore
leadership, teamwork, roles, conflict management, ecological awareness and personal development in
the Colorado wilderness. Class: July 1 (5 to 6:50 p.m.). Field study: July 9 to 15.
Eligibility:
 A veteran of the US Armed Forces (Status will be verified by Veterans Student Services)
o Preference will be given to students that are still serving or separated within the last
10 years.
 A brief (approximately 15 minute) interview with Jose Alferez, Manager of Veterans Student
Services is required.

Approximate costs:
Program tuition/fees:
$1365 (Trip fee of $960 + Tuition $405)
Scholarship Coverage: The VET Scholarship will cover the $960 fee which includes air/ground
transportation, most meals, lodging, backpacking and camping equipment, hot
springs, whitewater rafting and wilderness permits.
Total paid by student: $405 (If you are eligible for it, we recommend you utilize the Illinois Veterans
Grant or Illinois National Guard Grant). Please speak to the Veterans Student
Services Office about how to use education benefits to cover this cost.

Important Note:
This course is considered strenuous. Participants must be comfortable backpacking up to 10 miles a
day with a 40-pound backpack over rugged terrain at altitudes possibly exceeding 11,000 feet, with
optional excursions above 14,000 feet.

and Academic Progress throughout the Field Studies program and academic year.
