What’s new in Room 216?
MRS. O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS
z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z
“King Charlie” shared a
popular book among 3rd
Graders ... The Guinness
World Records 2016!
In Reading Workshop we continued to work on being able to
identify the “cause and effect” relationships in text but our focus
shifted to nonfiction events this week. We read the book
Snowflake Bentley and worked on organizing various facts as
they related to each other. Be sure to tell someone at home about
the “Snowflake Challenge” that all Pinney 3rd Graders are doing
as an extension to the Snowflake Bentley story! We completed a
Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the story elements
between “Stone Fox” the movie and Stone Fox the book. Tell
someone at home what were some of the things you included in
your Venn Diagram. Did you like the movie or book better? Why?
We spent some time fine tuning our knowledge of
multiplication and took an assessment over Topic 5 & 6. Mr. Eric
Baumann, a math coach for the district, came into our classroom
to work with us on “stretch problems.” He spent some time
showing us a few exciting problem solving strategies as well as
some cool number patterns that reinforce our general number
sense. He will be back with us for a few days next week as well.
Charlie “wowed” the
class with his impressive
“Simon Says” Skills!

In Science we planted our very own seed! Over the next
several weeks we will chart the growth of our plant. We will be
working on our scientific, data collection skills as well as being
able to communicate clearly what we are observing. We planted 3
seeds that have a “variable” condition in which they are being
grown. Tell someone at home how are the 3 variable seeds
different from the one you and your partner planted.
