8th Grade Language Arts-Mrs. Longwell
Writing-We will be journaling, along with formal
writing pieces ALL YEAR. Be prepared to write
EVERY DAY. We will build our writing community by
writing, sharing, and collaborating. It is
important that you bring your writer’s notebook to
class daily, along with your binder.
Reading-You will be reading several novels, short
stories, poems, articles and essays throughout the
year. Each day you will be reading SOMETHING,
whether independently, with a group, or whole
class. Reading is the cornerstone to becoming an
expert in language.
Independent Reading-In order to build a solid
literacy community in our classroom, we will all be
reading books, books, books! One of our class
requirements is that you bring along reading
material. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE 
Grammar and word study-You will be learning,
creating, and writing assignments and activities
related to word study and grammar techniques.
