KMS PTO Meeting February 1, 2016 – 7:00 p.m. Present: Kim Carpenter, Lisa Belding, Mukul Agrawal, Mark Mousa, Julie Andrews, Stacey Wellman, Suzanna Farver Presidents’ Call to Order 7:02 p.m. Principal Report District items – wrapped up 3 master planning meetings. Board is weighing different options about what to do in 5-­‐10 years. Required to have a 5 & 10 year plan. Idea of building a 4th high school is not getting a lot of support. Considering some non-­‐traditional options. The amount of the inter-­‐district transfers are going to be significantly lower this next year and going forward. Families will need to reapply each year & will be reevaluated each year for inter-­‐district transfers. All 3 high schools are at capacity. Not going to make consideration for high school inter-­‐district relocations. Karrer is currently is only MS with open enrollment. Dodgeball tournament was a success. Money raised at Karrer goes to Blessings in a Backpack. State tests were delivered today. Data is not used for instruction. Results show the state that schools are teaching what supposed to teach. Most testing windows are 75 minutes or less. Spring sports are starting. Weather has delayed some sport activities. There has been a lot of information shared regarding the upcoming sports camps. Karrer hosted a Welcome Dinner for Sells families who are transferring to Karrer. It was well attended and was well received. Jerome design team working on a new 6th grade shirt. Mr. Mousa plans to hand deliver the t-­‐shirts in May the schools with 5th graders coming to Karrer. Reviewed calendar of events. Teacher appreciation week is coming up. There will be a cookout on the Friday. PTO sponsors activities. May 7 is Community Service Day. Plans for Karrer – Steve Leonard will lead the landscaping efforts from 9 a.m. to noon. Last Day of School – Yearbooks will be passed out to students; Talent Show; Karrer Kares Service Projects for each grade. End of the day will have clap out for 8th graders. Teacher Representative Report & Requests Jen Keating – 8th grade math auction requesting $400 for prizes, gift cards, candy, small gifts. Motion to approve made by Mark; Kim 2nd. Motion approved. 237 7th graders are signed up for 8th grade DC trip. Some requests for scholarships for DC. Funds are available for scholarships through PTO and through the tour company. Secretary’s Report Kim makes a motion to approve minutes as presented; Mukul seconds. Motion approved. Treasurer’s Report Kelly Young Peters requested $300 for the Canteen on Friday. This amount is above budget. Kona Ice is coming and will give us a donation. Julie makes a motion to approve $300; Mark 2nd. Motion approved. 8th grade event – collection from the students will make up the difference. Behind on staff requests. There are extra funds. Can make donation back to the school/library/courtyard. Dance Club – reviewed with Catherine Moriarty. Enough students participate & enjoy it. Not a cost burden to the PTO. Old Business Question regarding the Driving Event through a car dealership to raise money. Did not hit the 100 participants so did not receive the donation. Recommend a communication about various fundraisers in the newsletters. Question regarding not having sports activities during Dublin Family Night. The challenge is in scheduling and conflicts with other districts. The thought has been discussed but have limited control over the athletic schedule. Recycling – bins are purchased but have not been delivered yet. 101 Beer Kitchen – possibility to do a Karrer Dinner Night Out – prefer a Tuesday. Suzanna Farver will follow-­‐up with scheduling.
