February 18, 2015, 2-3pm, DAH 205
Agenda Item 1: review minutes
Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
Agenda Item 2: review FSSS and OIP data
The group decided to collect five years of data, starting in 2010-2011.
Marja has data o UM-sponsored programs (exchange, study abroad and faculty-led programs). The data
includes destination, length, and numbers for all programs. She also has the data on gender, ethnicity,
major and language requirement for the exchange and study abroad programs. She doesn’t have that
information for the faculty-led, but if the directors of those programs have their students’ 790 numbers,
then it will be easy to obtain that information. She does not have data on international internships,
service, research or field work, but thinks we can ask Academic Enrichment to gather what exists.
Mary has international student census data for every fall semester. This would show enrollment trends
over the last five years. FSSS also collects information every other year on international students’
interests, experiences and attitudes. This information is used to help FSSS assess their programs and
services.
Agenda Item 3: determine who we need to contact to answer each question
The group decided that the question related to differential pricing should not be asked because it’s clear
that program prices vary by location. The group reviewed the remaining questions and created a chart to
determine which offices/individuals/groups need to be contacted in order to answer each question. The
offices included academic departments, Study Abroad, Office of International Programs, Foreign Student
and Scholar Services, directors of Faculty-led Programs, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, Students,
Academic Enrichment, School of Extended Learning, Business Services, Admin & Finance, Institutional
Research, UM Foundation, Graduate School and Student Affairs.
Agenda Item 4: determine what methods will be used to collect the data
The group was not able to tackle this question during the meeting. This is homework for next time and
will be discussed at the next meeting.
