Job Title: Engagement Specialist (ES)
Company: Engaged Health Solutions (EHS). EHS is a newly launched, physician led health engagement and lifestyle
coaching organization that works with employers to provide a unique, highly personalized, face to face approach to
employee health and productivity. The firm's philosophy is based on the belief that employers and employees need a
different approach to identifying and managing health risks in order to have meaningful and sustained impact. The
firm's Engagement Specialists work directly, on-site with employees to gain a trusted relationship with participants.
The intensive approach enables employees to understand their health risks, set goals, problem solve about ways to
improve health, and understand the broad array of employer and community resources that are available to support change.
Job Purpose: The goal of the Engagement Specialist (ES) is to develop an effective interpersonal relationship with
employees who elect to participate in this lifestyle coaching program. They must create a trusting environment
with participants in order to achieve credibility, motivate the individual to change and support the participant throughout
the process of making change. The ES will work shoulder-to-shoulder with participants in order to gain an understanding of
the job environment and stress factors. Supporting the ES is a core team of specialists (dieticians, exercise physiologists) and
a navigation team charged with identifying resources from the employer, their vendors and the communities.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Credentialed or eligible to be credentialed at the ACC level with the
International Coach Federation , CHES or other certified health education / coaching organizations. Ongoing
continuing education in coaching as defined by the International Coach Federation.
Home Based: ES will be based out of their home and travel by automobile to the client's locations within a 30 mile radius
of Chicago. Territory will include Chicago metro area and suburbs. The client is a major quick-service restaurant firm. The
ES will be responsible for varying degrees of support for approximately 200 employees dispersed between 25 to 35
quick-service restaurants in the target area.
Position reports to Director of Operations
Core Responsibilities:
1. Create and maintain professional health engagement relationship with 250+ local restaurant managers and eligible staff.
2. Engage participants in meeting health goals using motivational coaching techniques. Help individuals use existing skills
and develop new ones to overcome barriers to change and enhance success.
3. Foster an environment of individual responsibility through the development of a personalized health plan. Maximize
each person’s ability to adhere to the plan through the engagement with the individual and a team of healthcare professionals.
4. Partner with EHS support team of healthcare professionals such as dietitians, fitness instructors, and resource navigators
to support the objectives of employee plan.
5. Facilitate the participants completion of a proprietary health risk appraisal (HRA).
6. Implement biometric screening for HRA implementation and completion.
7. Participate in ongoing communication with participant by phone, email, text, and in person.
8. Support participant with available resources as appropriate.
Duties in Support of Core:
1. Travel to a regional location for initial and ongoing ES training. Communicate with EHS management staff via phone,
email, text to focus work with participants assessed to likely benefit the most.
2. Actively participate in ES quality improvement initiatives for personal feedback and to improve health coaching techniques.
3. Manage EHS territory including:
1. Schedule efficient site routing and territory management
2. Efficiently and accurately document expenses
3. Organize files and communications to (Director of Operations)
4. Document ES sessions on IT interface
Professional Skills Required: Can clearly communicate difference between coaching, consulting, psychotherapy, and
other support professions. Refers appropriately. Able to communicate and motivate via all communication tools (in
person, phone, text message, and email). Understands the principles of healthy lifestyle and integrative medicine,
behavior change, motivational interviewing, barriers to change, proper eating, exercise, and cessation of a habit such
as smoking. Aware of adult principles of learning and the educational process. Utilizes clinical guidelines such as NCEP,
JNC VII, ATP III to support counseling and goal setting. Appreciates need for excellence within company's mission and
the mission of core client.
Personality Profile: Entrepreneurial spirit. Desire to be a leader and contributor to the launch and evolution of a new
health promotion organization. Able to work in an unstructured environment and beyond a typical “9a to 5p” job. Selfdriven, results-oriented, with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality. An innovative, natural forward planner
who critically assesses performance of self and others. Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with all types
of individuals. Reliable, tolerant, and determined with excellent self-control and patience. Empathic with ability to see
things from the other person's point of view. Able to collaborate with others and be diplomatic in tense situations.
Driving skills: Excellent driving record. Must adhere to all local regulations and traffic laws including No texting or use of
cell phones while driving .
Computer skills: Must be adept in use of MS Windows, MS Office 2000 or later, Apple OS (Tiger or later), Internet, email, text messaging (SMS).
Literacy and Numeracy: Must be a competent writer of encounters with participants.
Business and Selling Skills: Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator. Ideal background would be
in health coaching.
Education: Bachelor Degree in a health, wellness, social sciences or human service related field required. Advanced Degree
in a health, wellness, social sciences or human service related field preferred.
Experience: A minimum of two years experience working as a personal coach or two years experience working in some
form of health behavior change.
Management Ability: Some people-management skills, experience and natural ability will be useful.
Language: Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish or other languages other than English a plus.
