Service Learning consent agenda will be presented after 3:00 pm.


The Humanities Subcommittee has not received the revised course forms for the Mansfield
Center courses.

The Science Subcommittee recommended approval of the late request for prerequisite
revisions for Applied Computing and Electronics courses (appended listed below). It also
approved the proposal submitted from Geography to change the number of GPHY 411N
Biogeography to 311N. This was a recommendation from the General Education Committee.
ASCRC concurred.

The Social Work courses were approved with the understanding that the justification would
be revised according to the email communications.


There has been email correspondence regarding the late request for prerequisite revisions
from Communication Studies. It is hoped that the form will be revised according to
recommendations in order to be approved at next week’s meeting.

The program modification missing from Management Information Systems was approved.

ASCRC discussed the draft catalog language for the revised Modern and Classical language
requirement. There was concern that the EASL courses required for international students to
fulfill the requirement sets a higher standard than students whose native language is English.
It was suggested that the Writing Committee be tasked with reviewing EASL 250 and 450 to
determine whether they would qualify as writing courses.
The language will be further refined by Professors Gillison, Vonessen, and Thibeau for
consideration next week.

Professor Caro distributed the fall consent agenda and the spring rolling review documents.
Some of the courses on the fall consent agenda will need to be included in the rolling review
document for presentation at the Faculty Senate. A few of the items are pending follow-up,
particularly in the natural sciences. One GLI course, “Why” submitted for review was not
included on the non-approved list and needs to be added. The consent agendas appended
have been corrected and were approved. It was noted that the symbolic systems request from
Media Arts requires a program modification since the sequences included have already been
approved. Camie will follow-up.
There was some concern that there are too many upper-division general education courses. It
was suggested that the General Education Committee consider including sample conditions
that would qualify for an exception to the lower-division rule.

Professors Hudgins and Vernon presented the consent agenda for the rolling review of
service learning courses. Five courses were approved. An existing service learning course
KIN 201 Basic Exercise Prescription was not approved because it did not have a strong
enough reflection component. HHP 191 Exercise is Medicine, a GLI course, also did not
meet the criteria. The list below was approved.


The Committee briefly discussed the questions drafted by Chair Henderson regarding support
services for International Students. Members will circulate recommendations for revisions.

It was clarified that the first math course taken by students satisfies the general education
requirement; subsequent courses that are taken to fulfill prerequisites are counted toward the
major requirements.
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 PM
