Sandy Grunwald, Chair of the APR committee, called the meeting to order at 11:00 PM.
Present: Grunwald, Brockmann, Knowles, Dixon, Tollefson, Dickmeyer, Cocks, Longhurst,
Denton
Excused: Kopp
1. Discussed charges from Faculty Senate
(a.)Create a template for APR reports on 5-year new program reviews based on the UW-System
requirements for these reviews.
(b.) Determine how to incorporate departmental progress on assessment into the review process.
Consider requiring the departmental self-study to use assessment results to document student
achievement, identify need for improvement and describe efforts to address improvement.
The second charge will be our current priority.
2. Discussed the possibility of deferring the next Athletic Training APR review until 2013 (after
site visit, and after accreditation procedures). Established a motion in favor of deferment.
The motion passed 8 – 0 – 0
3. Continued our discussion of the Biology APR report. Suggestions/ideas which surfaced
include: (a.) perhaps make the issue over lack of space and physical resources more explicit in
the report, (b.) addressing the lack of input/control the Biology has over certain external
pressures, (c.) make a broader comment how increased enrollment concerns the entire program,
and (d.) perhaps suggest that Biology explore the idea of a full time advisor.
4. Political Science. They were requested, within three years, to present comments (progress
report) about an assessment issue (rec. one). Not sufficient: we need results, list of learning
outcomes, what are their assessment techniques. Their comments were brief, incomplete.
5. Discussed how others are moving along on their APR reports.
6. Sam and Jim volunteered to take on the Microbiology report.
Next meeting, Feb. 11th, 11:00 A.M.
Submitted,
Sam Cocks
