Fungicide applications may not always pay
Applying fungicides to corn may not always pay, say three Iowa State University
Extension specialists.
"Producers are looking to maximize corn yields today more than previous years
because of higher grain prices,'' said Roger Elmore, one of the Extension
specialists. "Some of the management practices that were not economical at
one tiime may now be, considering the new prices.''
Fungicide applications to field corn is one of those management tactics that
needs to be re-examined, he said.
Studies done in 2007 indicate that all applications offered an economic return, he
said.
